Logistics Management published an article in their May issue about how digital supply chains are evolving from basic visibility tools into more adaptive, AI-driven systems, but most organizations are still early in translating that potential into consistent execution. While many companies have already invested in core systems like ERP, WMS, and planning tools, the bigger challenge now is integrating data, breaking down silos, and enabling faster, more autonomous decision-making across operations. As this shift continues, St. Onge Company’s Howard Turner discussed how organizations must carefully navigate trade-offs between unified platforms and best-of-breed solutions, while preparing for a future shaped by AI agents and more dynamic, responsive systems.
“You get benefits from being on the same platform, but it’s a lot easier to train users when everything has the same look and feel,” says Turner, “but you have to ask yourself, do you miss out on some capabilities by being trapped in that ecosystem?”
“This whole concept of adaptive process orchestration, where systems can adjust and direct operations as conditions change, is really intriguing.”
